Techinque Focus: Reverse Tri-Fold Card

If you’ve seen our snowy and playful Santa Express Designer Series Paper, you may have already added it to your Christmas crafting shopping list. It may move to the top, however, after you check out this month’s technique focus: an adorable, tri-fold card showcasing our very jolly Santa Claus delivering Christmas cheer via the North Pole Express.

To make this clever, expandable card, cut Basic White and Pool Party Cardstock at 3-1/2″ x 9″ (8.9 x 22.9 cm). Tear and adhere the Basic White Cardstock to the Pool Party Cardstock, then score at 3″ (7.6 cm) and 6″ (15.2 cm). Die cut the train from the Designer Series Paper using the Santa’s Train Dies and adhere the pieces to the card front using Stampin’ Dimensionals to give the train engine and cars a little pop! Adhere the festive sentiment—stamped in Shaded Spruce ink on a strip of Basic White Cardstock—and you’re done! Tie up your card with some Linen Thread to keep it closed.

If you adore this card as much as we do, you may want to check out the Santa Express Suite Collection, which includes the Santa’s Delivery Stamp Set, Santa’s Train Dies, Santa Express Designer Series Paper, the Santa Express Memories & More Card Pack, 3/16″ (4. 8 mm) Iridescent Trim, and so much more! Parts & Pieces: On a Slant

Can we be honest with each other? Some of us have a hard time letting go of our cardstock and Designer Series Paper scraps. They’re too small to use for a card front but too big to throw away. Still, we love them and know we’ll find a use for them sometime.

Here’s your chance! You can use these pretty scraps on cards that you can make in minutes.

Simply cut rectangles on a slant and combine them to create a beautiful card front. If possible, you may want to do as our concept artist did: Find cute images in the Designer Series Paper to punch out or die cut for your focal point—then pop them up with a few Stampin’ Dimensionals.

Need to create multiples in a short amount of time? Simply use this card layout as your template. You’ll have a stack of beautiful cards in no time at all!

We used three Sale A Bration Designer Series Papers—Beautifully Penned, Peaceful Prints, and Penguin Playmates—to create our fun cards. Remember you can get these adorable Sale -A-Bration Designer Series Papers for free with a qualifying purchase.

However, you may want to use whatever you have on hand so you can make a dent in that scraps collection . . . that we know you have. wink

CASUAL

Fühl dich geknuddelt Card (4-1/4″ x 5 1/2″) (10.5 x 14.9 cm)
For our casual project, we used just a few products to create a fun, simple card that anyone can make. Stamp and die-cut the sheep, add a little color with Smoky Slate Stampin’ Blends, create a dimensional background with 1″ x 3″ (2.5 x 7.6 cm) strips of Basic Gray Cardstock, then dapple the “sky” with Cute Stars Adhesive-Backed Sequins. Baa-adorable.

AVID

Tu es supeeerbe Card (4-1/4″ x 5 1/2″) (10.5 x 14.9 cm)
We fancied up the Avid card by embossing the Basic Gray Cardstock Strips with the Painted Texture 3D Embossing Folder. Our special trick? Add a little White Craft ink to the folder to leave cloudy impressions on the embossed paper.

ARTFULLY AVID

You’re Amazing Card (4-1/4″ x 5 1/2″) (10.5 x 14.9 cm)
For our final card we used Blending Brushes to add Basic Gray and Tuxedo Black Memento ink to a piece of Smoky Slate Cardstock. Once the inks were blended, we spritzed the cardstock with water, then splattered it with White Craft ink before cutting the paper into 1″ x 3″ (2.5 x 7.6 cm) strips. This time we used the inked embossing folder technique on the card base, giving it a marbled look that contrasts nicely with the darker cardstock strips beneath.
